Trips: Narrow River

Queen's River          Wood River          Pawcatuck River          Great Swamp          Narrow River

The abundance of shorebirds, ducks and fish is fantastic!!  If you’re looking for an absolutely wonderful way to start your day this is it!  The early mornings in the refuge are always calm & beautiful, the foraging birds always abundant.

Pettaquamscutt Cove & the Narrow River,  Narragansett - Route 1A.

Often seen birds include:  Great blue herons, green herons, great & snowy egrets, red-shouldered hawk, double-crested cormorants, osprey, least and semipalmated sandpipers, greater yellowlegs, plovers, gulls, yellow warblers, red-winged blackbirds, common terns, American black duck, if we're lucky an American kestrel and quite a few other shorebirds.  Being so close to them in their natural environment is always exciting.

Paddle througn some of the 150 acres of tidal marshes, sand flats and grasslands, shrublands and estuaries on the southeastern shore of the Narrow River

Three minutes up the road from Naragansett Beach, this area is so great to explore and it is considered a Birding Hot Spot in RI.  High tide allows you to get into more areas.  Paddling during low tides allows you to jump out on the sand bars that no one on shore can reach.
